Oppression and injustice are not new to religious communities. Witness what the Shiites have endured in the early days of Islam. But for the oppressed to become the oppressors in the name of Islam and at the same time carrying the full force of government sanctions is not only a travesty but also a crime against humanity punishable not only by world public opinion but also by the remorse these oppressors will have when they realize the extent of their erroneous and devious ways.

The Baha'is in Iran are only asking to be treated like all other Iranians regardless of their Faith. That is a standard that Iran upheld as a signatory of the UN Declaration of Human Rights.

Ms. Ebadi's decision to defend the detained Baha'is is a reflection of the nobility of the Islamic teachings and the nobility of humanity. She will pay a price for her decision to defend the Baha'is.
She has accomplished the highest honors but for her the highest honor is to do right and to defend the oppressed. She is doing what is noble, what is Islamic, and what is right!
